IGCSE Quadratic Equations: Factorising, the Quadratic Formula and Graphs

Quadratic equations are one of the most tested topics in IGCSE Mathematics. I help students master all three solution methods — factorising, completing the square, and the quadratic formula — and understand how quadratics connect to parabola graphs.

Solving Quadratics: Three Methods

I teach students to recognise when to factorise, when to complete the square, and when the quadratic formula is the best approach. Factorising is fastest for simple cases, completing the square reveals the vertex, and the formula works universally. Understanding all three gives students flexibility in the exam.

Quadratic Graphs and Real-World Applications

IGCSE exams frequently ask students to sketch parabolas, find turning points, and interpret quadratic graphs in context. I help students connect the algebra to the graph — understanding how coefficients affect shape, position and direction — so they can tackle both calculation and interpretation questions confidently.
