History & Overview
Andersen International School was founded in 2000 in the southern part of Milan and has grown to serve over 600 students. What distinguishes Andersen is that it remains a founder-led, independent school — a relatively rare characteristic among Milan's international schools, many of which have been acquired by larger education groups. This independence allows Andersen to maintain a distinctive educational identity and make decisions closely aligned with the needs of its community. The school offers multiple educational pathways, including a British curriculum, the IB Diploma Programme, and an Italian Liceo taught in English.
IB Programmes & Curriculum
Andersen offers a unique multi-pathway approach. Students can follow the British curriculum through primary and secondary school, then choose between the IB Diploma Programme and an Italian Liceo taught entirely in English for their final years. This flexibility is particularly valuable for families who want to keep their options open or who may transition between educational systems. The IB DP pathway at Andersen provides full access to the breadth of the Diploma Programme, while the Liceo option offers an Italian state-recognised diploma with the advantage of English-medium instruction — ideal for students planning to study at Italian universities.
Campus & Community
Andersen's campus in southern Milan provides a welcoming environment for its 600+ students. The school is known for its strong sense of community and its emphasis on nurturing each student as an individual. Being founder-led means that the school's leadership is closely involved in daily life and responsive to parent and student feedback. Andersen has built a particularly strong reputation for its early years and primary programme, where creative learning and a caring approach set the foundation for later academic success.
Why Choose This School
Andersen is the ideal choice for families who value independence and flexibility. The multi-pathway approach (British, IB DP, Italian Liceo in English) means students can find the academic track that best suits their goals. The founder-led governance ensures a personal touch and a school culture that puts students and families first. The strong early years programme makes Andersen a particularly good choice for younger children entering international education for the first time. For families in southern Milan, Andersen offers a convenient location combined with genuine educational quality.
